Answers to most of your questions can be obtained from the Swim Australia™ Teacher commonly asked questions.
The benefit of all this is increased flexibility and accessibility for Students, reduced course costs, improved standards of outcomes and confident well trained Teachers.
The course fee includes complimentary ASCTA Teacher Tier 3 membership until 30 June the following year.
CPR is not linked to the qualification, however ASCTA strongly encourages all Teachers to undertake a prudent risk assessment of their work environment which may highlight the need for CPR, first aid, lifeguard, pool plant operations, swimming coaching or other skills in addition to a teaching accreditation.
Holders of Austswim, out of date or overseas qualifications can potentially gain Recognition of Current Competency at minimal costs into the ASCTA accreditation system, with subsequent registration to ASCTA only required every 4 years with costs potentially only $30*.
* if ASCTA Teacher Tier 3 membership is maintained.
Note: ASCTA Membership also provides all the Professional Development needed to re-accredit.
International courses and course attendees from overseas have a modified set of requirements, but must meet the Australian requirements to teach in Australia.
The majority of Swim Australia™ Teacher of Babies and Toddlers (SAT B&T) Course Students will have already attended a Swim Australia™ Teacher(SAT) Course and gained their accreditation. Students may attend a SAT B&T Course without attaining their SAT accreditation first.
Some Students may wish to only teach Babies and Toddlers and have no desire to teach older Children. In this case the Student can enrol in the SAT B&T and undertake the theory and practical of the SAT B&T course and specialise in this one area. (lessons would have GST added regardless of lesson content in this instance)
It is recommended that a Student gaining SAT B&T accreditation, hold the competencies embedded in the SAT Course. This then enables their lessons which have a component of personal water safety to be GST free under a ruling from the Australian Taxation Office. You should speak to the Australian Taxation Office or your accountant for further advice and clarification.
