SwimEd - Going Green

SwimEd and its operators are actively committed to the environment and local community.
Green Tree Frog
This is evident in the following SwimEd actions:
  • using recycled paper wherever possible
  • thinking before we print and promoting this on our emails
  • having a constant monitoring energy usage meter which also monitors carbon generation to closely watch usage of individual electrical items
  • using recycled loo paper
  • installing a composting toilet
  • collecting and using tank water
  • Bandy Bandy Snake
  • replacing trees removed for the SwimEd offices
  • SwimEd Offices are a recycled building transported to site and built primarily out of renewable and recycled resources.
  • The office is located within walking distance of the operator's home, thus reducing the use of motor vehicles
  • recycling packaging is used wherever possible
  • Earth Star
  • offsetting SwimEd's impact on the land and carbon generation by setting aside approx 9 hectares (22 acres) of mature wet sclerophyll and rain forest on the operators property as a carbon sink
  • using natural ventilation and lighting in the SwimEd offices as much as possible
  • non essential items in the SwimEd offices are on timers to be in use only when necessary
  • only mild soaps and water are used as cleaning products
  • electricity and energy usage is closely monitored
  • shredding and recycling paper on SwimEd gardens
  • Orchid
  • sorting plastics, metals and paper for recycling
  • utlising reusable and recycled items wherever possible
  • SwimEd Office entrance New arrivals outside SwimEd offices
  • combining several requirements into one trip using energy efficient motor vehicles
  • using solar power on water ponds
  • incorporating the principles of Feng Shui into the siting of the SwimEd offices, interior design and colour scheme.
  • The SwimEd offices and access sit over the land rather than on it, thus allowing free movement for native animals
  • using low impact processes and efficient systems to develop and distribution products and services worldwide such as empowering local people to deliver locally
  • to set an example and encourage others in low impact renewable business practices
Carpet Python

Personally we live by the edicts:
  • that humans are only custodians of the land and never own it
  • that each person by their actions can make a difference
  • to do nothing because someone else is doing nothing is a cop out!
  • tread lightly on the earth, as others will need to walk where you have been, long after you leave

All the pictures on this page are within close proximity to the SwimEd offices. Koalas, snakes, frogs, echidnas, wallabies, bats, bandicoots, blue tongue lizards, lace monitors, water dragons and all manner of birds are regularly seen around the SwimEd offices. This, to us, is an indication that the balance with nature is being sustained and we are living and working in harmony.
